I want to learn sign language.

Yeah, that's right. Auslan, specifically. The alphabet is surprisingly intuitive for one to learn. From what I see, there are a few patterns:

  • As I'm right handed, my left hand is mostly stationary, whilst my right hand does the work. Makes sense.
  • The vowels involve pointing at my left fingers with my right hand.
  • l, m, and n all involve fingers on my palm
  • z looks like a chair for some reason
  • f, g and h also don't like look like their letters
All in all, though I'm pretty confident.

Confident enough to do this, in fact.

(Puts hand on chest, does two finger salute, traces j, points to little finger, places finger on palm, points to middle finger, points to ring finger)

Tsundere - the one person love story

This post shall focus on the female tsunderes. There are male tsunderes as well, but they are not nearly as prevalent.

Okay, let's try to post again.

Last post I focused on dere, mainly kuu- and tsun-. Now let's drill deeper into the more popular tsundere, as I ask myself, "Why the hell is it so popular?"

There are a couple of reasons, actually.

One is addressed in this article by the escapist. By making conversation a bit of game, you can't help but feel satisfied if you manage to reach the point of sweetness. The tsun makes the dere sweeter, like a bottle of water is all the more refreshing after a marathon. Contrast, say, the yandere, which undergoes a deterioration of affection, making them not as appealing (they still have a scarily large amount of fans).

But the popularity of tsunderes not only lies in the demand, but the supply as well. Tsunderes are popular to write because they are easy to make story out of, especially a romance. Stories require a complication, a conflict to overcome. In many romantic tales the conflict lies in a third 'wrong' love interest that one of the main chars falls for. But making a third character, even a flat one, takes effort, and can backfire spectacularly trying to balance between making the character likable enough for a char to fall for, but unlikable enough to come second. Another source of conflict can be a clash between the two members of the couple, but we have another balancing act. Too little conflict is boring, too much ruins the romance. And again we need two compelling characters.

A tsundere is love and conflict all in one.

Her love interest doesn't even have to be interesting (and a lot of mediocre anime leads aren't), a stock generic male is all that's needed for tsundere to act tsundere towards. Show the conflict of emotions in the tsundere and bam, instant story. Added bonus; making the male bland and generic makes it easier for the audience to project upon.

Tsunderes have their female fans, too, those who see them as role models. Admittedly, the 2D tsundere is a rather big step up from the 1D prize trophy, but the 2D tsundere is rather flat. Unfortunately, this had led to the 'only weak women are girly' train of thought which is not good for feminism or the rest of us.

What I think I would like to see more is female characters that go beyond a simple '-dere' archetype. Yes, characters can be tsundere, but by god, please don't make it all they are.

Dere

Sweetness! That is basically what dere is all about, but in the otaku community, it has become a suffix of terms to describe particular female character archetypes.

I swear I've talked about this before.

Checking my meager past posts, I see that I haven't leaving me to rant about these things at length.

According to my research, there are four main types of the -dere archetype:
  1. Tsundere (Sweet hidden by hostility)
  2. Dandere (Sweet hidden by shyness/antisocial tendencies)
  3. Kuudere (Sweet hidden by coldness/lack of emotion)
  4. Yandere (Sweet not hidden. Too sweet, in fact. Psychotic Sweet.)
Tsundere is by far the most common (and popular) of these archetypes, followed by Yandere. In fact, that's why the image above shows these two. It's not surprising, really. Tsundere is by far the easiest archetype to squeeze out cheap drama and shallow slapstick. Tsundere can be done well, but it's easy to do a 'good enough' mediocre attempt. Yandere is second as it provides an effective foil to the tsundere, especially as the romantic false lead, only to reveal her possessive tendencies.

I hope my opinion about tsunderes didn't show that much in my description, because I don't want the impact of the next sentence to be lessened in any way. I HATE tsunderes. They always struck me as idiotic and immature. I am fully aware that that reaction is not dissimilar to how a tsundere might act (ho ho irony), but really, I dislike the fact that they have, in my vain and overstated opinion, over-saturated the market and overshadowed the other -dere archetypes, which are more interesting and appealing. the dere (sweet) is supposed to be enhanced by the tsun (rough), but any dere is tainted by the tsun in the bland, cookie-cutter tsunderes that are out there. It may be because of Naru from Love Hina (one of the first anime I ever watched) being such a bitch, but there you go.

It really should come with no surprise that Danderes and Kuuderes are my favourites. Before, I would have had Danderes as my very favourites, but with, well;
  • Ai (Amagami)
  • Lain (Serial Experiments Lain)
  • Rei (Neon Genesis Evangelion)
  • Eriko (Kimikiss)
  • Yue (Negima)
  • Chane and Ennis (Baccano)
  • Angel (Angel Beats!)
  • And, of course, the queen of my heart, Yuki (Suzumiya Haruhi series)
...as my favourite characters from their respective series, its pretty clear that I have a serious Kuudere bias. Yes, some of these are cookie cutter (Angel, anyone?) but I love them all the same.

Kuudere; tsunderes with much-needed sanity.

Year 12, or; Bonfires

I haven't posted on this for a long time, for a good reason. I am now in year 12 and that means I should be studying. But, now I feel that I want to put some memories down on this thing, so I can look back and smile at the antics of my past self.

But here's something that might be useful later.

---

When was the last time you saw a bonfire? An actual, real, bonfire. A fire made of random twigs, branches and patience, radiating heat to warm your face, while your back freezes. Watching the flames dance on the wood, as it slowly shrivels.

Humanity was born through fire. Fire was the one tool that humanity uniquely wielded; even Greek legend states that ‘fire from the gods’ was what made us special. And fire was a truly wondrous thing. It gave light and warmth, but it also killed and destroyed. It was eternally hungry, and no matter how powerful it is, it eventually dies. Strong, yet fragile; like life itself. No, it would be more correct to say that life was like fire. Fires were burning for eternity in the form of stars. Yet even they die.

Everything dies.

There's no way a little sister anime can be this good.

If you were to tell me that there was this great new anime series called "There's no way my little sister can be this cute," I'd look at you strangely and slowly back away. But, in a fit of boredom, I watched it, and it was good. Well, better than I thought it would be.

This is mainly because the main male lead is such a good character. Kyousuke just wants a normal and dull life (like Rincewind form Discworld), and stays in the background. In contrast, his little sister, Kirino, is an overachiever, and thus is the favoured child. She's also a tsundere of the worst sort, so I don't like her that much. The two are distant and have a badly broken if existent relationship.

This is all turned on its head when Kyousuke finds out that Kirino is actually a closet otaku obsessed with, ironically enough, little sister eroge.

Repeat to yourself, it's just an anime, you should really just relax.

But not only does Kyousuke agree to keep Kirino's habit a secret, he also agrees to help Kirino find people like her. He would win just because of that little fact, but it turns out that the plot would do anything to cause trouble, and he usually sacrifices himself for Kirino, who both bosses him about and beats him up along the way.

Yeah, I really don't like Kirino.

Which is a shame, because she is, literally, the only character I detest. I like Saori and Kuroneko, the two other otaku; I like Manami and her family, who are somehow able to be simultaneously both kind and hilarious; I like Kyousuke's mum, who sticks up for him when he has to go up against his dad; I even don't mind Kyousuke's dad and Ayase, who provide an interesting antagonism to the otaku plot (and I understand them drawing the line at the NSFW material, I mean seriously Kirino, WTF?). But Kirino's there to be 'adorably' tsundere, and the ungrateful whelp doesn't deserve help. (Okay, she says thanks once. Once.)

Besides, the thoroughly unlikeable female lead, this is a decent anime. Check it out.

Oh, and KyousukexManami forever.

A morbid conversation

P1: (Me and a group of friends sitting around a table)
Me: Say, out of all of us, who do you think will die first?
P2: Darcy: Julio, can't you think of something a little less morbid to talk about?
P3: Me: Oh, fine. Something more lively...
P4: Me: Who do you think will live the shortest among us?

P1: Me: So, who do you think?
P2: Ned: Calum.
Me: Why?
P3: Ned: He'll probably say something like "I can make this jump."
P4: Nick: "I can block this bullet with my skull."

P1: Me: I'll probably die early. My genes have provided me with poor health.
P2: Ryan: Julio! You shouldn't think like that! Think positive!
P3: Ryan: "I am living my life to the full! I am NOT dying!"
P4: Me: Well, technically I am.
Ryan: This is the type of talk we're trying to avoid.

P1: Darcy: Well, in my family all the women lived over 90.
P2: Darcy: Yet all the men died around 60.
P3: Julio: Well, women do live longer than men.
P4: Ryan: When I'm 80, I'm going to have a sex change.

P1 Me: What?
Ryan: If I change sex when I'm 80, I might get an extra ten years.
P2: Ned: So, when you're 80, you're going to have doctors surgically operate on your abdomen.
P3: Ned: This is going to make you live longer, how?
P4: Ryan: Wait 70 years, and then you'll see my genius.
Me: Well, I would probably be dead by then.

Imagine

On the ninth of October, 1940, one of the greatest musicians of humanity, certainly the 2oth century was born. He would grow up on the advent of rock, and would gather a group that would change music forever.

Happy Birthday, John Lennon.

Ai is love

...Well. You know how I said that I only fanboy over one and only one character, the ever-so-perfect Yuki Nagato?

It's quite possible that another character may join this exclusive list.

Amagami is an anime that deals with the age old problem of compressing many routes of a VN into one timeline of anime in a unique way. Every four episodes a girl is pursued then the universe resets to start the next arc. This is because there is no 'true' girl in Amagami, every route is as canon as each other. One of the many side effects of this format is the drastic personality change of the main character, Junichi Tachibana (hereafter referred to as JT) to better fit the arc. So far there has been three arcs, three girls, and three JTs:

  • 'Puppy' JT and Haruka Morishima. Haruka is possibly insane, and JT, bless him, reciprocates by acting like a dog. Fetish Fuel: Kissing the back of the knee.
  • 'Rival' JT and Kaoru Tanamachi. Bro Arc. Sexy hair. Humorous denial of feelings. 'I'll show you something better than stars'. Fetish Fuel: Making out with a belly button.
  • 'Instructor' JT and Sae Nakata. Shrinking Violet. Fourth wall is broken in an attempt to spice up the most boring arc. Fetish Fuel: Between the toes.
But I"m not here to talk about them, as you might have realized. I'm here to talk about none other than the seriously sexy Ai Nakasaki. Yes, that's right. The anime hasn't even focused on this character, and what we have seen of this character is seriously minimal. Anime-wise, Ai is just a satellite character so far.

So why am I gushing over such a character? Well, apparently I am genre savvy enough to recognize a character I would like from a few seconds of animation. I just didn't know how much I would like this character. But she was appealing enough to make me skip to reading the manga as the anime was taking its time to reach her arc. That in itself should have been a clue, as I did something similar with Nagato-san and Disappearance.

And oh, boy, if the anime was half as appealing as the manga was, I would be a very happy man.
  • 'Awesome' JT and Ai Nakasaki. Dialog made of win and awesome. Kuudere. Awesome scenes both funny and sexy. Fetish fuel: Ai Nakasaki
Admittedly, Ai is not as awesome as Yuki, being, you know, human. But she makes up for it in pure sex appeal and snark. They both even have awesome character songs.

So, Ai's inclusion into the fanboy list is a great possibility. Kaede from Angel Beats was the last contender up for nomination, but she lost points in her later episodes for losing some of her independence.

So, Ai, are you up for the task of being comparable to the likes of Yuki Nagato? Only time will tell as your arc comes around.

Love +

This is really, really old news. But still, it's worth talking about, as I find it very interesting. A while back, a Japanese (of course) college student married a video game character named Nene Anegasaki. An actual wedding, of course, with all the bells and whistles attached.

Man, how did he break that to his parents.

Um, however, while I can talk about how obsessive and sad the way certain people can take this 'waifu' concept, it has been done repeatedly, I find such a thing boring.

What I find interesting is quite the reverse. Rather than talk about the fall of real man, I shall talk about the rise of the artificial girl. No matter how sad someone might have been in the past, no one would even dream of exchanging vows with an artificial construct. But now, Love plus has broken this barrier (for better or worse, or worse still) and apparently simulated the male's ideal of a mate well enough for this to happen.

Note that I said the male's ideal of a mate. I am in no way saying that Konami have made an accurate female simulation. What they done is take the Tsundere, Yamato Nadesiko, etc. archetypes and made appeals to the otaku heartstrings (through their libidos).

The character married in question is described to be "a mature person", and is one year older than the protagonist. If I had to marry a character from that game...

...you know what? I don't even play the damn thing, so why screw around with metaphysical speculations. I've already met people who claim to have waifus and they creep even me out. Diehard Yuki Nagato fanboy, remember.

And on that note, here's a pic of the very lovely data interfaces of Suzumiya Haruhi.

Purgatory (& emotionless girls)

I've just realized something. I'm an emotionless girl whore.

...

That is to say, I'm a whore for emotionless girls, instead of an emotionless girl who is also a whore. I'm written before on Yuki Nagato, the only thing I'll ever fanboy over, and now I've just marathoned Angel Beats! which has Tachibana Kaede, who has unsurprisingly become my favorite character.

However, look at this.

This is a recent popularity poll for the characters in the anime. The orange bar is Kaede (Tenshi) and has a staggering amount of votes. The only other character that comes even close is TK, who is just so fucking hilarious that's not surprising. I mean, I mean, just watch the damn anime.

And now I'm being distracted. Hah. Later.

The Dice Roller's Dilemma

Technically, when you roll a dice each number has an equal opportunity to land face up. However, we all know this is not the case. We all know that the damn things apply Murphy's Law, and we damn know that the smug little bastard to your left gets all the good rolls. So, naturally, we try to cheat chance, fool fate and do whatever seems reasonable to appease the Random Number God.

Two prevailing theories have led to the dice roller's dilemma:
  1. A die that has consistently got good rolls is a 'good' die. Roll this die.
  2. A die that has consistently got good rolls has used up its 'luck'. Don't roll this die.
Isn't that sweet?

Mind you, this applies to any random number generator, including gambling and the lottery. Almost every person who buys a ticket chooses numbers that pop up often, following theory one, or rare numbers following theory two.

Which theory, if any, works? That's the thing with random. You never know.

Comedy (a possible stand up sketch)

Ahem. Hello, hello. Ah. This is my first time to do a stand up, so please be gentle, okay?

As this is my first time to this sort of thing, I have tried to look up how to make this little thing entertaining. So, I searched for things that make people laugh.

And you know they did scientific reseach on this topic, and you know what they found to be the most likely things to make people laugh?

Things that are not actually funny.

...I'm screwed.

But have you noticed that comedians don't really tell jokes anymore? No, do you know what they do? They talk about stuff. Apparently real life is so ridiculous that comedians make people laugh just by talking about it. That's really sad when you think about it. Of course, they tell it with a certain flair that makes it funny instead of depressing. This 'flair' really depends on your audience. If your audience is left-wing, you talk about the stupidity of the right-wing. If your audience is right-wing, you talk about the stupidity of the left-wing. If you are Anglo-Saxon you talk about Indians. If you are Indian you talk about the Japanese. If you are Japanese there will be two of you; one to be stupid and the other to provide the physical abuse that signals for the audience that it is okay to laugh now.

Now the only thing left is for some smart-ass to realise this and attempt a stand up based around this... oh, wait. Ha.

You can can either laugh at the stupidity of life or you can cry because of it, folks.

The pre-tens in review (2000-2009)

As the year comes to a close, so too does the decade. It almost seems like yesterday that I was in year one...

Actually, no, it doesn't feel like yesterday at all.

Anyway, this blog post shall try and review humanity's first decade in the new millenium. How did we go? Well, let's find out.

2000
International Year for the Culture of Peace, World Mathematical Year, Final Year of the 20th Century and 2nd Millenium.
In this year, the mini Y2K story arc came to a rather anti-climatic ending, with nothing much actually happening. While the author of Peanuts, Charles Schulz dies, America begins its period of shame and stupidity, when George W. Bush gets elected. ILOVEYOU gets created in the Philippines, cementing the threat of computer viruses. Australia hosts the Olympics this year; go us, and the International Space Station starts its continous manning, meaning that there will always be a human presence out there.

2001
Officially the first year of the 3rd Millenium
Wikipedia, the most 'reliable' source on the internet, is born. Nothing much else happens, meaning everyone was taken by suprise when planes suddenly crash in the World Trade Centers, heralding the beginning of the 'War on Terror' arc, starting much bigotry and bloodshed.

2002
Year of Ecotourism, Year of the Outback
"Weapons of Mass Destruction" get continually said in this year. Aside from that, nothing much actually happens.

2003
Year of Freshwater
The year everyone says "Bullshit!" to the supposed 'War on Terror', yet America invades Iraq anyway.

2004
Year of the Rice (I don't really get it either)
The CIA admits the 'Weapons of Mass Destruction' were all fabricated. The Lord of the Rings wins 11 Oscars. Madrid get bombed. Athens says "Olympics, welcome home." John Howard beats Mark Latham. Bush also gets relected, which decreases everyone's view of American voters tenfold. At the end of the year a Tsunami strikes south-east Asia, killing thousands.

2005
The Year of Discovery
We discover tha t North Korea has Nuclear weapons. We discover America and Australia and big twats when it comes to climate change. We discover that John Paul II wasn't immortal, but awesome none the less. We discover that the 'War on Terror' had been effectively useless as bombs go off in London. We discover that the American Government is incompetant even with home affairs when Hurricane Katrina hit. We discover Australia was being targeted when the Bali Bombings occured. We discover we aere one second behind, so we added another one.

2006
Year of DesertsItalic
Fittingly, Sydney has its hottest day on record in the first day of the year. The Beaconsfield Mine collapses, causing two men; Todd Russel and Brant Webb, to become acquainted. Wii and Ps3 get released, and England records this as their hottest year. Oh, and Pluto loses 'Planet' status.

2007
Year of Anniversaries
Final Harry Potter book released. Howard defeated by Rudd.

2008
Earth Year
Kevin Rudd says 'Sorry' to the Stolen Generations. Earthquake rocks China, before it hosts the Olympics. Global Financial Crisis begins. Bush finally out of office, replaced by Obama. Another second added.

2009
Year of Astronomy
Victorian Bushfires after the hottest fucking (sorry) day recorded in Melbourne. Swine Flu breaks out. Michael Jackson dies. Massacre happens in Maguindanao.

And that's it.

Irrational Philosophy no Ichizon

One must consider the differences in media...

Absolutely correct, Student Council President.

Congratulations on your new anime, by the way.

---

Some anime just run on referencing others.

Okay, just two.

One is the phenomenal Lucky Star (or the anime with the really annoying theme), while the other is Seitokai no Ichizon.

Ken Sugisaki has finally got what he wanted. A whole 'harem' of cute girls to himself in the form of the Student Council. However, his goal is the extremely lofty harem end, and Ichizon isn't really an eroge...

What a sane person would have done would be to go after the one girl that takes his fancy, but Ken confesses his love to the entire council at the same time. Um.

To be fair, I would have come to the Visual Novel conclusion as well; the council girls do fulfill their respective stereotypes (tsundere, loli, etc...), yet I would go after... uh... Actually that's quite difficult... Well, I wouldn't go for all of them at once.

Where was I? Oh yes. The number of references in this anime is staggering, unfortunately making it rather bland once you remove the references. But I'll keep an eye on it, just in case...

The Melancholy of Irrational Philosopher

If there was one anime I would blame for ruining my life, it would be The Melancholy of Haruhi Suzumiya. Picture the scene. A boy, who doesn't really like anime, gets shown a clip of Hare Hare Yukai by his friends. He immediately dismisses it as more anime crap. Then, later, he is shown two episodes of the anime, namely the Baseball episode and the Day of Sagittarius episode. Thus, I fell in love with one character; Nagato Yuki.

I completely and utterly blame that utterly adorable Artificial Interface for grabbing me by the heartstrings and thrusting me into the world of anime and those related.

The more I think about it, the more I realize that Yuki is the only reason I like the series (well, that's not completely true; I like Sasaki too, but she hasn't appeared in the anime yet).

Speaking about things not shown in the anime yet, I am absolutely pissed that they haven't shown The Disappearance of Haruhi Suzumiya yet, instead showing eight episodes of endless bloody recursions of time. Oh, poor Yuki, having to endure 3 billion cycles of that...

Ahem. Well. Melancholy. This is the anime that introduced me to the adorable badass known as Yuki, and thus thrust me into this world...

What an idiot I am.

Touhouproject.com is dead.

Touhou-project.com is born.

It's different from the old site. The new one is split into two sections: 'General Touhou' and 'Stories'.

General Touhou
Basically where everything except stories end up.
/gensokyo/ is the 'General' general board. 'I think Keine has the sillest hat', lol. The important threads here are the story recs (coincidentally, there has been a huge leap in the number of new stories. Hmm...) and the author roll call (to see if the author of your fav project has made it to the new site).
/i/ is where the drawfags hang out. Of course, when in a world of writefags, anyone that can draw two eyes and a mouth can be condiered a drawfag. Questionable quality.
/tt/ is touhoutube! Yes, that rarely updated board is here! Don't expect quality.
/at/ is where NSFW material is supposed to go. Now excuse me, I'll be in the Patchouli thread...
/words/ is... uh... I don't exactly know.

Stories
Is still exactly the same, except with /underground/, meaning higher chance of Parsee love.

Parsee loev...

Touhouproject, you...

...thing.

It's up again, kinda.

Good news is that I can stop posting these horrible 'reviews'.
Bad news: No new material to read.

So if the site's a bitch, next time I visit it, it might be offline again.

Eh, might as well read the parts of Fallout Gensokyo that aren't archived.

Expectation of Sanguine Disorder (Waiting for a bloody mess)

Now here's a good one. Expectation of Sanguine Disorder is the 6th Project and the first one written by the now legendary Hungry Youkai. In fact, this is quite probably the main reason he is so legendary.

This would be the second 'limited' adventure, that is, one that is supposed to mainly take place in one location. This one mainly takes place in the SDM, after 'Belmonymous' suddenly wakes up there, in vampire hunter fatigues and meets Remilia Scarlet, who would become the primary romantic interest. But the mansion holds some dark secrets...

Hungry Youkai really pulled off a nice one here; creating the first satisfying ending of a project with you sexing Remilia and punishing Sakuya (who deserves it for being a complete and utter bitch throughout the tale). Meiling and Koakuma make nice appearances, but Patchouli doesn't appear as much as I hoped (she does, however manage to cause a suprising BAD END). Flandre's sanity has been brought up a few notches, making her a sweet imouto character.

Anon still shows some of his shizophrenic tendencies having more BAD ENDs than SHaG, leading into some nice discussions (like should we kiss Sakuya? and should we trust Mima?). Belmonymous manages to be killed by Koa, Patcthy and Remi. Not Sakuya, interestingly enough.

A tale worth a read.

Something's Happening at Gensokyo

Since Touhouproject is down, and I've read all the archives in sheer boredom, I've decided to do a review of each until it's up again. (Which could be a while)

Something's Happening at Gensokyo (SHaG) is the 5th Touhou Project (I've decided to call each of the fanfics a 'project') and stars what I believe to be the first female protagonist created (after the author, Vodka, slipped and used the pronoun 'her'). Introducing herself as Adahn, she ends up in Gensokyo and moves in with Aya and Moizimi in their home on the mountain of faith. Soon after, Adahn acquires a sentinent Claymore, and alerts the attention of Remilia Scarlet. After the Claymore somehow creates a body, it sparks a confrontation between Remilia and Adahn.

Also, Adahn wishes to become Hina's shrine maiden, and the story shows the complications involved as well as the abilities she recieves.

The romantic subplot involves both Adahn and Moizimi as the primary couple (leading to the story's only bad end caused by TAIL FEEL SO GOOD) and, suprisingly, Hina and Claymore.

The tale has completed its first arc and is in the middle of its second, where the events of Subterranean Aminism destroy Adahn's newly created shrine. With the responsiblities of the Gensokyo Shrine Maiden, Adahn goes out to resolve the incident.

SHaG may be the first truly epic Project. While in no way the best, Vodka gave Anon the right chances, while Anon properly took them on board with excellent write ins and discussion. A true example of author and anon working together.

Goddamn Touhouproject.com...

Usually, when I get home, I sit in front of my computer, get on the internet, go to Touhouproject.com and then...

Pure and utter bliss.

Of course, reading the title you should figure something's gone terribly wrong. Well, it's not extremely terrible, just extremely annoying as the site is currently changing servers and is experiencing an extended amount of downtime.
So the best I can really do is read the archives. Problem is that I'm a fast enough reader to do so in the time it apparently takes to change a server. Now I'm reverted to the sad habit of clicking on the link on my favourites bar, waiting for it to load and reading in disappointment the somewhat irritating Oops! This link appears to be broken. message.

If for some daft unknown reason you are reading this and have no idea what I'm talking about, let me give you an explanation.

Touhou Project is a series of Japanese shoot 'em ups which involve you as a girl to go out and shoot fairies. Now take that unpromising premise and jam the AWESOME meter up to as far as it will go. You will get a series with:
  • Hard Difficulty
  • Mediocre to Non-existant storyline
  • Bad art
  • Absolutely Incredible Music
  • And the most creative fanbase that is mathematically possible

Yes, unlike so many pieces of fiction, the fans do not ruin it, they enhance it. Great fan art, kickass remixes, memes by the bucketload...

When a fanbase gets powerful enough, they start to write fanfiction. Usually, it's horrible. Could the almighty Touhou fanbase writefags break the trend? A person now known as Gensokyo Man started a thread in the 'infamous' image board 4chan. The thread gave Anonymous the responsibility of controlling the main character as he traveled the land of Touhou known as Gensokyo. Apparently, this proved so popular that it got kicked out of 4chan, and it had to move to a new home with the address 'Touhouproject.com'.

This website would go on to hold a series of stories where the fickle will of anon were the actions of the protagonist. Most failed, but some rose to glorious heights. That's why it's bliss.

...if it wasn't down.
